THE WELLCOME TRUST GENOME CAMPUS - SOUTH HINXTON, CAMBRIDGESHIREThe South Campus at Hinxton comprises new build laboratories, support areas, offices and computer suites housing the Sanger Centre, Human Genome Mapping Project Resource Centre and European Bio-informatics Institute with common facilities and basement car parking in a newly landscaped 50 acre parkland environment. The Client, The Wellcome Trust, in association with The Medical Research Council commissioned the 32,000 m² building under a bespoke Design, Manage & Construct contract with architects Sheppard Robson and main contractor Bovis. Wheelers provided comprehensive cost planning, contract consultancy and cost monitoring services from site masterplanning to occupation, in conjunction with Project Managers Fuller Peiser. The £54m contract was completed in July 1996 and formed part of a series of contracts which has transformed the Hinxton Hall site into an international centre for research into the human genome.
