The Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton

Wheelers provided full quantity surveying services to The Wellcome Trust for the entire £70m research campus development designed to accommodate the ground-breaking Genome Mapping Project in the new Sanger Institute.

It included construction of 32,000m² of new laboratories, data and support areas, library, canteen and a separate home for the European Bioinformatics Institute, all in a new landscaped parkland setting. These works completed in 1997 and were executed under a bespoke design, manage and construct contract developed jointly with the Client’s lawyers.

Under a separate contract Wheelers also advised on the Grade II* listed Hinxton Hall renovation and construction of the associated Conference Centre.
